Sports Departmental Profile
- About Sports Department :
The Department of Physical Education & Sport came into being in 1972. The College believes in empowering the students through holistic education by its systematic and focused course of action. The college has laid platform for numerous talents of our students. The college has very good infrastructural facilities for Sports and related extra- curricular activities, which have been developed and have thrived over the years. There have been additions to and renovations of these facilities from time to time, for indoor and outdoor games and also for the traditional Indian games. The students actively participate in the Inter collegiate sports competitions every year in Athletics, Kabaddi, Ball Badminton, Cricket, Badminton, and Volleyball. Maharashtra Mahavidyalaya has achieved a remarkable position in the field of Sports and games at the University, State, National level. The consistent increasing performance of the Department of Physical Education & Sports over the years is the major reason for this achievement. The first sports director of the college Mr.S.T. Pujari. Retired in 2009, after Dr. Gopal L. Moghe is the head of this department since year 25th October 2010. It is one of the biggest departments in the college so plays leadership role in many activities like organizing the Inter collegiate tournaments, Annual Social Gathering Sports, college students. Students take parts in almost every game notified by University and Sports directorate every year, and get selected at Zone, Inter Zone, West Zone, Distract, Division, State, national and All India Basis.

- Goals and Objectives
The aim of Physical Education along with education the fullest development of man
Physically, and morally, so that he will be a better person, individually, and will contribute to
Group welfare and social progress. Dr. P.M. Josef.
Physical education is that the whole field of education of education which deals with big
muscle activities and their related responses. Mr J.B. Nash.
The aim of Physical Education is development of effective citizenship and social
efficiency. The object of physical education is to help in the production and maintenance of
health in body and mind. The aims of physical education are not different from those of
education. The subject teacher is merely content with discussing the theory and imparting
knowledge whereas the physical education teacher makes ceaseless and untiring effort to achieve
these aims through muscular activities.
The following are the aims and Objectives of Physical Education
- Development of well-built and strong bodies, Conservation of health.
- To keep children fit and in trim form during school life and ultimately make them in to
Well developed, fall fledged, wholes some personalities.
- To develop in them the sense of personal hygiene, social hygiene, mental hygiene, moral
hygiene and sex hygiene.
- Development of regular habits of exercise, cleanliness and play and of healthful living.
- Development of personal qualities like self, reliance, endurance, self-control, courage,
Initiative, steadiness of purpose and resourcefulness.
- Development of social qualities like obedience, co-operation, fellowship.
- The long term overall objective of a health programme is to, maintain and to improve the
Health of human beings this refers all aspects of health, including physical, mental,
Emotional, and social, the school, college, has responsibility to see that all students
Achieves and maintain optimum health, not only from a legal point of view but also from

otherwise India will be a weak nation tomorrow.

“Games and Sports are the important dimensions of quality of an Institution of Higher
Learning”.
Let the youth realize that “Body is the medium of all the endeavours”. Body should be
strong to achieve heights in any sphere of life.
To make youth aware of the importance of Games and Sports (Physical Activities) in the
