Department of Physics came into existance in 1985 but the first permanent appointments in the dept. were made in 1989. Dr C J Kadam was appointed as the head of the dept. and is working till date. 2nd appointment was of Dr M M Chaudhari in August 1989. He is working as Associate Professor in the dept. Mr Vijay R Deshmukh is working as a lecturer on CHB basis in the dept.
Mr D N Khandekar is working as lab attendent.
Department offers 3 years teaching in physics at undergraduate level which includes theoretical as well as practical knowledge in various branches of physics which includes gen. physics, sound, light, basic electronics, electricity and magnetism etc.
Dept has good infrastructure facilities which includes 2 halls. One hall is used as dark room laboratory for light experiments and other hall is used as laboratory for general experiments.Department is well furnished with all the major equippments to conduct experiments at undergraduate level. Major equippments includes spectrometers, sources, telescopes, travelling microscopes, one optical bench, CRO, generators etc. Department is also provided with one PC with internet connection and an over head projector.
Various activities are organised by the department. Essay compitation, poster presentation, class room seminars, group discussions are some of the activies which are organized regularly for students. They are also encouraged to design scientific projects to participate in "Avishkar" science exhibition organized by university.
Department also organizes study tours at various educational and industrial institutions situated in and out of the state. Third year students participate in these tours and submit a project based on the same.
Department also has organized a national conference on nanotechnology.
Dr M M Chaudhari worked as the member of the Board of Studies in Physics at SRTMU Nanded during 2011 to 2016
Both the faculty members are actively engaged in research and have completed one minor research project each, uptill now.
